Description:

Kee Joe Benally (Native American, Dine (Navajo), 1936 to 2014) An outstanding and rare example of a sterling silver decorative dish by Kee Joe Benally, and a 2nd place prize winner at the 1972 Inter-Tribal Competition! The rim is scalloped, and the surface chased with lines and chevrons with an 8-pointed star in the basin. The underside has 3 nubbin feet and is stamped with the artist's initials "KJB", and the hallmark used by Woodard's Indian Shop, which sold Benally's work: "W. / IHM / S/S" (Indian Hand Made Sterling Silver). Benally was a well-known and award-winning silversmith and influenced many contemporary Navajo artists. Silver vessels like this are rare, and Benally's jewelry is more commonly represented on the market. A few pieces by Benally are part of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian's collection. Size: 7.5" L x 1.75" H (19 cm x 4.4 cm); silver quality: 93%: weight: 441 grams
