Native American, Southeast or Midwest, Mississippian, ca. 900 to 1543 CE. A wonderful and extremely rare example of a grayware stirrup jar from Mississippian culture presenting a globular body with 2 tubular necks that join together at the top to form a tapering spout. This is perhaps an early form of canteen that could be strapped to the body or worn over the shoulder. Size: 5" L x 5.3" W x 8.4" H (12.7 cm x 13.5 cm x 21.3 cm)
