Ancient Greece, Mycenaean Period, ca. 1200 to 1100 BCE. A rare example of a forged-bronze short sword blade of lengthy form. The T-shaped tang features 6 perforations meant to hold decorative rivets or have the handle panels riveted to the sides; 1 rivet still remains within its original housing. The elongated blade features a slender profile with sharpened edges, a thick midrib flanked by thin stripes, and a pointed tip suitable for piercing thrusts. Size: 14.7" L x 2.25" W (37.3 cm x 5.7 cm)

  • Condition: Missing 5 rivets as shown. Slight bending to overall form, with small nicks and tears to blade edge and tang peripheries, abrasions, and softening to raised bands along midrib, otherwise in very good condition. Nice patina throughout.
