Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Monte Alban, Zapotec, ca. 100 to 600 CE. A very rare ceramic dog created in Monte Alban, the center of Zapotec culture located on the summit and shoulders of a steep hill in the Valley of Oaxaca. This puppy presents a dynamic pose with his front paws crossed over one another, his head looking upward with an open mouth, wide open eyes, and perky ears that make for quite a lively countenance, and a long tail curling over its hind quarters. A wonderful and it bears repeating quite rare example with marvelous white caliche. Size: 4.5" L x 2.75" H (11.4 cm x 7 cm)
