Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 100 to 700 CE. An incredible pendant carved from a milky white and pale, salmon pink spondylus shell into the form of a human head with two eagle heads projecting from it, one from either side and shown in profile. The upper center of the back is pierced through twice for suspension. An imaginative example of an artisan carving to the form of the shell. Size: 2.75" W x 1.4" H (7 cm x 3.6 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
