Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche II, ca. 300 to 400 CE. A rare mold-made copper figure, a kneeling warrior with red shell inlays for earrings and a shield boss. The figure wears a conical hat and holds a club. The kneeling warrior was an important motif for the Moche during this early part of the Moche period and this figure, made to be buried in a tomb, tells us that the glorification of war and warriors were essential parts of Moche culture. Size: 1.95" L x 2.75" W (5 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
