Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A lovely free-blown, semi-translucent glass aryballos of a miniature form and a verdant yellow-green hue. The vessel boasts a flat base with a rough pontil scar along the lower half of the globular body, a rounded shoulder, a squat neck with a splayed lip, and a thick pair of applied loop handles. Fiery areas of rainbow-hued iridescent patina accentuate both interior and exterior surfaces in a palette of sapphire, amethyst, ruby, citrine, and emerald colors. Vessels like this example were typically taken to bathhouses and held small amounts of precious scented oils. A rare example in such a miniscule size! Size: 1.875" W x 1.625" H (4.8 cm x 4.1 cm).
