Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A set of 3 petite votive axe heads, each cast from bronze. The largest axe head features a trio of smooth spikes emanating from behind the socketing shaft, and the remaining 2 axe heads each have a contiguous bracing rib running vertically down their spiked versos. Each weapon has developed layers of naturally-occurring patina in hues of green and brown. Size of largest: 2.625" L x 0.7" W x 0.8" H (6.7 cm x 1.8 cm x 2 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased October 16, 2017 (4 spikes), June 25, 2018 (3 short spikes), and December 15, 2019 (largest); (4 spikes): ex-Ancient Objects, Cranston, Rhode Island, USA; ex-John J.
