Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 1350 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery zoomorphic effigy vessel of a llama standing atop a quartet of nubbin legs. The highly burnished, red-slipped figure features circular spots across its body that are filled with fugitive white pigment, and the spout rim is also lined with similar stippling. The globular head features a charming countenance with an incised mouth and a pair of tab-shaped ears, all adorned with black and white pigment. Size: 6.8" L x 3.375" W x 5.4" H (17.3 cm x 8.6 cm x 13.7 cm)

  • Condition: Professional restoration to right ear and right front leg, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions to head and body, with chipping to fugitive pigment, and fading to dark pigment in scattered areas. Nice preservation to overall form.
