Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A rare and gorgeous bronze cylinder seal, tubular in form and pierced on both top and bottom for suspension, with skillfully-incised designs. The accompanying putty rollout displays sets of grape bunches and eight-pointed stars that separate a pair of combative griffins (or Anzu in ancient Mesopotamia) with clawed feet, beaked heads, and large feathery wings. The seal displays primarily russet and toffee hued surfaces, and flaunts areas of light and dark green patina across the surface. Size: 0.8" H (2 cm).
