Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, ca. 200 to 600 CE. Remarkable and extremely rare Mayan jade pectoral disc. Large circular carved medium green jade with slightly rounded edges, large central hole along with two smaller holes - these used for attaching additional jade elements and attachment to garment. Deep groove on reverse for unknown purpose. Size: 3.25" W (8.3 cm). Custom stand available for small fee.

This comes from the very famous Peter Wray collection. Mr. Wray was a leading collector of Pre-Columbian material in the 1950's. His collection was forfeited when a business deal went wrong and the bank took possession of it. This has the bank trust numbers in red.

  • Condition: Imperfections on the edges of the stone but these are not chips, simply areas where the carver let the natural stone dictate how the piece was carved. Else quite excellent with nice old patina.
