Description:

Ancient Near East, Iran, Luristan, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 2000 to 1600 BCE. An attractive pottery tripod jar adorned with intricately painted red-on-white geometric, zigzag, and lattice decoration. Featuring a corseted body and flared rim, the rounded base is supported by a trio of tapered feet. Vessels of this form have been found at Kamterlan II, a mound in Luristan in the Zagros Mountains of western Iran. Although it had been a settlement in the late third millennium BCE, by the second millennium the site had become a cemetery. It is difficult to say what purpose this bowl served, or even to determine whether it was a special funerary item or an object of everyday use. Size: 4.6" W x 4.5" H (11.7 cm x 11.4 cm)
