Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan, ca. 750 to 650 BCE. A forged-iron sword of remarkable form with a lengthy blade bearing a thick shoulder, sharp edges, and a pointed tip. The discoid pommel is adorned with a pair of Janiform heads, each with faces turned in opposite directions, and flanking the shoulder is a pair of stylized recumbent lions. The state of preservation of this sword suggests it was intended as a funerary offering rather than a weapon to be used on the field of battle. Size: 31.5" L x 3.2" W (80 cm x 8.1 cm)
