Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan, ca. 750 to 650 BCE. A rare example of a forged-iron short sword with a petaloid blade bearing sharp edges and a rounded tip. The shoulder of the blade features a pair of stylized recumbent lions, and atop the discoid pommel is a pair of Janiform heads, each with faces peering in opposite directions. The condition of this weapon suggests it was intended as a funerary offering rather than a battle-ready armament. Size: 18.5" L x 3.2" W (47 cm x 8.1 cm)
