Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. An elegant copper axe head bearing 2 pairs of circular protrusions behind each side of the ovoid socketing shaft. The blade exhibits a slender midrib that forks towards each corner of the trapezoidal blade head. The golden bronze hue is the result of modern cleaning, but the result shows how the blade would have appeared in antiquity. Size: 4.69" L x 0.91" W x 1.48" H (11.9 cm x 2.3 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased June 11, 2018; ex-London art market, English collection acquired 1960s
