Ancient northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 BCE. Large and very rare bronze scepter or staff. Hollow-molded handle with twisted grip attached to solid cast long tapered wand, round for the first section and rectangular for lowest area. Rounded section decorated with spiral designs and tapered tongues, upper section of rectangular piece further decorated with 4 similar tapered tongues. Scepter has developed a stunning deep red/green patina. Size: 23.25" L (59.1 cm); 18.5" H (47 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired before 1990
