Central Asia, northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 BCE. A rare and extraordinary example of bronze weaponry in this region of ancient Iran. Known for their remarkable bronze-work, this Luristani example features 10 spikes encircling two rows of a circular orb, central shaft hole from below slightly flared collar. Size: 3.375" W x 2.75" H (8.6 cm x 7 cm).

Tested using XRF technology showing composition as 86.98% copper, 6.27% tin, 3.996% lead. All consistent with ancient bronze from this region.

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, acquired from Pax Romana Auctions, London, UK, November 6, 2020, private Kent, England collection formed in the 1980's to 1990's.
