Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A rare pair of matching hand knives, each with a charming deer figurine laying recumbent atop the handle. Each cylindrical handle features a set of perforations set equidistant from one another amongst fields of incised striations, and below is a paddle-shaped blade with a rounded outer curve. The deer set above the handles each exhibit stocky bodies and raised heads with branching antlers. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 1.3" L x 1.25" W x 7.4" H (3.3 cm x 3.2 cm x 18.8 cm)

  • Condition: Each piece with small chips to bottom of blade edge, with minor abrasions and nicks, light earthen deposits, and softening to some finer details, otherwise in great condition. Wonderful patina throughout, and nice preservation to stag atop handles.
