Description:

South Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful, lathe-turned bowl formed from caramel-hued kou wood. The vessel has a squat foot, a carinated lower body, sloping walls, and a thick rim that hangs over the shallow basin. The interior has obtained a nearly black hue perhaps from repeated use, and one vertical fissure is repaired with three wooden plugs. Size: 5.125" W x 2.3" H (13 cm x 5.8 cm).
