Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern to Central Coast of Peru, Lambayeque to Chimu cultures, ca. 900 to 1250 CE. A repousse mask created with 2 hammered sheets of silvered copper bearing a stylized anthropomorphic visage. Almond-shaped eyes, a thick nose, full lips, and deep nasolabial folds create the countenance while the tab-shaped ears each bear 2 perforations for attaching the mask to the front of a mummy bundle rather than directly to the face of a deceased individual. Size: 3.1" L x 8.2" W x 6.75" H (7.9 cm x 20.8 cm x 17.1 cm); 10" H (25.4 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Professionally repaired with restoration to areas of face, peripheries, and verso as shown; small chips and light adhesive residue in some areas. Obverse likely professionally cleaned to reveal underlying silvery color. Minor abrasions, with thick patina on verso, and softening to some repousse details, otherwise in excellent condition. Great patina on front and back.
