Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, La Tolita (sometimes Tumaco) culture, ca. 350 BCE to 350 CE. A pretty seated figure of a woman with a very detailed face and her legs crossed, one hand resting on her ankle, the other held to her breast. Her upper body is painted white, and her lower body and face yellow; her head has a cap that is painted red. On the north coast of Ecuador and into Colombia, this culture is a continuation of the earlier Chorrera style, and is known for their realistic human faces and figures.
