Description:

South Asia, Northeastern India to Burma, Naga Konyak culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A rare handwoven cotton textile with beadwork, used as a body wrap or shawl. Beads symbolize wealth, status, and identity, with specific patterns and colors often representing tribal affiliations, age, and social rank. They are also used in rituals and as protective charms. Three cotton panels are seamed together to create one large piece, characteristic of Naga weaving that uses a narrow loom. The piece has a small repair made by the wearer, but is in excellent condition. Size: 65" L x 39" W (165.1 cm x 99.1 cm)
