Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jama Coaque, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A pair of handmade figural pottery lime pots (lime powder enhanced the power of hallucinogenic drugs, both in the form of reclining, seductive temptresses (one actually blowing kisses) and elaborately bedecked with headdresses, earspools, pectorals, armlets, bracelets, and anklets, all painted with beautiful blue-green, light green, and white pigments probably intended to represent turquoise, jade, or even emerald. The details of both figures' faces are nicely delineated with open mouths, upturned noses, and coffee bean shaped eyes making for very expressive visages. A wonderful pair of figural lime containers with gorgeous coloration from the ancient Jama Coaque culture. Size: larger lime pot measures 3.5" L x 1.75" H (8.9 cm x 4.4 cm)
