Lot 110
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A very unusual terracotta incensario comprised of a bowl with a meticulously hand-worked pointed border supported by a recumbent male shaman figure, nude except for his crested/horned cap. The figure lies upon his side in a fetal position with hands pressed together making either a supplicant or perhaps praying gesture, and looks upward with open, almond-shaped eyes, a pronounced straight nose, and pursed lips. A very rare example from this ancient West Mexican shaft tomb culture. Size: 8.25" W x 5.25" H (21 cm x 13.3 cm)
