Description:

Pre-Columbian, South/Central Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A rare, well-preserved wooden dish in the form of a duck, used in part of the preparation of snuff. The vessel sits on a petite base presenting thick walls that rise to a low, annular rim. A flared tail projects from 1 side, while the raised head with a flattened beak is at the other, each doubling as handles to the dish. Size: 9.5" W x 2.7" H (24.1 cm x 6.9 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, before 2010; ex-Eugene Lions collection, Geneve, Switzerland, collected 1960 to 2000
