Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 1200 to 500 BCE. A grand pectoral created for a Lord-King, comprised of 25 beads cut from human bone (likely from sacrificial victims) with three plaques depicting trophy heads in high relief - the two outer ones finely carved from turquoise, the central one from human bone. The ensemble is arranged in an attractive, well-balanced, graduated design. Size: 12.5" W x 5.75" H (31.8 cm x 14.6 cm); 11" H (27.9 cm) on included custom stand.
