Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 to 700 CE. An impressive copper mace of a sizeable scale with a lengthy, tapering shaft and an intimidating head comprised of 8 projecting spikes and a conical finial. The shaft consists of a thinly-hammered sheet of copper that has been rolled to form a slender handle for the implement. Note the heavy encrustations of seafoam green and turquoise patina enveloping the ancient weapon and granting it with a gorgeous presentation; a lovely historical reminder that looks can kill! Size: 3.5" W x 20.5" H (8.9 cm x 52.1 cm); 22.8" H (57.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, before 2010; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, acquired in the 1950s to 1960s
