Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, northern Veracruz region, Huastec culture, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A rare, hand-built pottery vessel depicting 2 abstract heads, 1 of which being attached to the end of a snake-like creature. The curved container features a spender spout on the verso, an arching handle, and an abstract simian head rising from the neck of the larger creature underneath. Remains of elaborate black and umber decorations create a wondrous presentation. Size: 7.5" L x 6.875" W x 5.6" H (19 cm x 17.5 cm x 14.2 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to handle, with some resurfacing along break lines. Abrasions and fading to most pigment, with light abrasions and earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to overall form, and remains of painted decorations are still visible. Previous inventory label beneath base.
