New World, Native American, found in Seneca, Ohio, Middle Woodland Culture, ca. 100 BCE to 400 CE. A fine example of a shovel-style pendant, made from green and black banded slate, and made to be put into a grave mound, marking its owner as someone of high status. In the center is a small drilled hole with slightly wider edges. Size: 2.25" W x 5.25" H (5.7 cm x 13.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Ohio, USA collection, acquired in the 1960s
