Description:

Greece, Hellenistic period, ca. 200 to 150 BCE. A lovely pair of gold earrings, each one hammered from 24 karat gold sheet, perhaps representing a beetle or winged insect, with finely delineated details and a hook back. When Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire in 331 BCE, the ever increasing affluence of society together with exposure to exotic cultures, brought about more demand for opulent objects, including gold jewelry like these earrings.
