Description:

Hellenistic Period, Greece, 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A grey pottery jar in a form known as a spindle vessel adorned with a painted temple, a large classical column with an "M" beneath it, and an expressive, bearded visage in white on its walls; as well as four sinuous snakes adorning the neck. The perfume vessel presents quite an elegant silhouette given its tall, slender form with a curvaceous, bulbous midsection, a long tubular neck that flares gently to a thick rim, all on a flared round foot. Quite rare with wonderful painted iconographical program. Size: 6.375" H (16.2 cm)

Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970
