Description:

Europe, Germany, ca. 1880. So rare! This human anatomy torso was created during the Victorian Era in the late 19th century. Made in SOMSO - plastic, it is about half the scale of an actual human torso. Each component of the torso is numbered most likely to correlate with a key, and the model separates into parts. The model was created via a casting method using patterns created by faculty members of the department of Anthropology at the University of Gottingen, founded in 1734. All SOMSO models were made by highly skilled artisans, and painted and assembled by hand. This example is mounted upon a wood base that is painted black and supported by a metal stand. SOMSO models traditionally have been used as educational and scientific tools, as they are functional models with naturalistic and accurate representation of the human anatomy; however, they also stand alone as true works of art! Size: torso itself measures 13-1/2" x 8" at widest point; 8-5/8" x 14-1/2" framed. Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, Santa Monica, CA. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #109758

  • Condition: Some losses particularly to the top end of the model. Surface is generally very good with minor nicks here and there.
