Description:

Eastern Europe, Russia, Lower Cretaceous period, ca. 117 to 113 million years ago. A superb and aesthetically pleasing fossilized ammonite Ancyloceras genus, with the characteristic partially uncoiled shell and the chamber opening curving upward to point at the coil. This fossil was excavated and prepared to stand upright upon the remaining stone matrix, carved into a base. Heteromorph or "uncoiled" ammonites, a type of cephalopod that are much rarer than typical solid whorl shell ammonites. The surface has developed shimmering pearlescent in areas due to the mineralization of the shell. Size: 5.5" L x 3.5" W x 9.25" H (14 cm x 8.9 cm x 23.5 cm)
