Description:

Ancient Central Asia, Mongolia, Djadokhta Formation, Late Cretaceous Period during the late Campanian stage, ca. 75 million years ago. An incredibly rare and nicely preserved clutch of 5 eggs once belonging to an Oviraptor (Oviraptor philoceratops), a type of ancient theropod dinosaur characterized by its three-toed limbs, hollow bones, toothless beak, and feathered body. The egg clutch displays several elongated ovoid eggs encased within an iron-oxide-hued earthen matrix that demonstrates how the Oviraptor carefully arranged its eggs before brooding on top of them for incubation. Each eggshell has hardened to a stone-like consistency as a result of fossilization that has preserved it throughout the millennia. Size: 17.5" L x 12" W (44.4 cm x 30.5 cm)
