Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. Rare and quite lovely personal mirror made of bronze with added gilding over a silvered tin background. Small circular form depicting a standing couple under an archway supported by twin marble columns. Couple is in loving embrace - perhaps this was a wedding gift from the husband to the wife or from the family to the happy newlyweds. After the bronze was formed, it was gilded in high karat gold. One can just imagine how incredible this must have looked 2000 years ago, because it is still quite lovely and remarkable now! Size: 3.25" W (8.3 cm)
