Description:

Northern, Celtic culture, Late Bronze Age, ca. 800 to 500 BCE. A cast-bronze axe head, near-miniature in composition, with a twin-ringed hafting slot, and a broad body; its two cutting edges are oriented both horizontally and vertically. Given its size, this was likely meant as a votive offering to be laid at a temple or altar. With its lustrous verdant green patina, this is a wonderful example of ancient European bronze proficiency! Size: 3.75" L (9.5 cm).
