Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Syria, with strong Egyptian influence, or Egypt, with strong Egyptian technique, ca. 1000 BCE. Rare amulet that looks remarkably like the bird-face idols of the Syro-Hittite period, but in a faience material with added black pigment. Standing figure with pointed beak-type nose, one hand to chestraised banded area at lower abdomen. Faience now shows a lovely iridescent surface and is undoubtedly ancient, but in a style we have not seen before. Custom stand. Size: 2.875" H (7.3 cm)
