Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manteno culture, ca. 1000 CE. A fabulous, hand-carved stone amulet in the form of a monkey hunching over with limbs bent to hold a petite fruit below his chin. The adorable simian displays a slender body with bulging eyes, an extended snout, and a sinuous tail that loops atop his back. A drill hole perforates his hind feet allowing the animal to be suspended and worn as a pendant. Size: 2.4" L x 1.6" W (6.1 cm x 4.1 cm)
