Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 100 to 800 CE. A fascinating ceramic vessel in the form of a bat. It has a large, round opening in its lower body, flaring, S-shaped wings, a large head with big ears, small eyes, and a large open mouth full of teeth. The Moche saw the bat as an animal associated with sacrifice, darkness, and the night, especially because of their observations of the vampire bat. Size: 8" W x 7" H (20.3 cm x 17.8 cm)
