Description:

Old World, Cretaceous Period, ca. 84.9 to 70.6 million years ago. A well-preserved fossil of a shark (Paratriakis curtirostris) in limestone, with fins and body outline present as well as some of the internal structures. Due to their cartilaginous skeletal structures, shark fossils are often difficult to find with a good degree of preservation. Around the outline of the skin, you can see the denticles ("little teeth") that are on the surface of sharkskin. This particular extinct species, related to the modern day dogfish Triakis, has been documented in sediments from Lebanon and Sweden. Size: 15.7" L x 4" W x 1.05" H (39.9 cm x 10.2 cm x 2.7 cm)
