Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Pre-Classic period, ca. 200 CE. A rare style of figure from the end of the West Mexican shaft tomb culture period. This is a hand-built bichrome figure of a woman with an enormous head as well as pronounced genitalia and breasts. Her face is flat and slab-like, with a prominent hairline, wide eyes, and drilled holes through her ears which presumably once had ornaments such as metal rings or feathers. In her wide open mouth is a small ball, perhaps representing a death bubble or a ball of coca. Size: 4.45" W x 6.2" H (11.3 cm x 15.7 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Triffo Collection, acquired in the 1970s
