Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Coast Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An incredibly unusual musical instrument from ancient Mexico! Pottery with red burnished finish further enhanced with incised decorations in two areas of the body. Unlike most flutes where you blow directly into the mouthpiece, like a whistle, you blow across the opening. Three holes allows the player to change the pitch of the instrument. 5-5/8"L (14 cm). Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired at auction or local gallery between 1982 and 1994. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108053
