Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A tall, hollow-cast redware terracotta warrior figure with a nicely burnished surface. The male warrior is hunched over, standing on two broad and flat feet, and looking to his left side while securing a stone in place within a sling. His head is covered by a broad-rimmed hat and chin strap; his open mouth and coffee-bean shaped eyes convey the figure as squinting, as if to locate and aim for a far-away target in the bright daylight. He sports barrel-shaped armor, round with a wide collar, which features a plumed semi-circular feather adornment on the reverse, perhaps to give a larger and more foreboding appearance to his enemies. A striking and well-detailed example of shaft tomb artistry! Size: 5" W x 7.5" H (12.7 cm x 19 cm).
