Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 200 BCE/CE. Rare pottery vessel in "envelope" form. Thin pouring jar with slightly flared rim with red slipped exterior decorated on each side with square incised border pattern with abstract bird in the center. On the interior of the vessel is a small bird attached to a branch that connects to each wall. A delightful and rare example for which we have only seen 2 in our lives. Size: 6.75" L x 3" W x 6" H (17.1 cm x 7.6 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Joseph Paul Schaumberg collection, Dr. Murray collection, acquired prior to 1944.
