Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A charming vessel in the form of a coatimundi, seated on its haunches like a dog, with a plump body, elongated snout, large ears, and bulging eyes. A wide, flaring spout rises from the top of the animal's head. These playful animals may have been pets in ancient Mesoamerica, and this one is posed in a way that immediately reminds the viewer of the famous Colima dog. Size: 11.15" W x 9.5" H (28.3 cm x 24.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private J.G. collection, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, acquired before 1975
