Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, possibly Jalisco or Nayarit culture, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A rare pair of pottery foot vessels, each having a stylized human face molded onto the front of the cylindrical ankles and covered in a tan-cream slip surface with painted red-brown highlights. These unusual effigies were probably funerary vessels, storing food, drink, or even offerings for the deceased to take to the afterlife. Size: 5" Diameter x 4.5" H (12.7 cm x 11.4 cm)

  • Condition: Loss to surface layers and abrasions to underside of base on one and chips to rim. Small repair to rim and visible break line on other vessel. Overall great condition with scattered manganese deposits on both.
