Description:

Pre-Columbian, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. This rare example is similar to the fruitera or pedestal plate but was actually built as a stand for another vessel. It exhibits four fantastic avian scenes on the top and foot portions of the vessel and depicts dancing birds with wings widely outstretched. At the center of the "pedestal" are two abstract beetle-looking creatures. There is profuse, intricate patterning, featuring red, purple, and black pigment against a cream/white slip. A wonderful example of a desirable type Size: 7.125" W x 7.25" H (18.1 cm x 18.4 cm)
