Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, ca. 400 BCE. Chontal blue-green stone figure with oversized head, deeply undercut neck, projecting lower jaw, elongated torso, and attenuated limbs. The Chontal artists created portable sculpture grave offerings with remarkably naturalistic features relative to the more abstract Mezcala stylings. The beauty of the stone, either speckled blue-green metadiorite or serpentine, in addition to the elegant delineation of the form make for an impressive addition to any collection. Custom museum-quality stand. 8-1/2"T x ~3-3/4"W x 1-3/4"D. On stand, 9 1/2"T x 4"W x 2"D.
