Description:

Pre-Columbian, North/Central Coast of Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. A rare example of a Chimu blackware vessel exhibiting a squash-shaped body of sizeable form, the surfaces dotted with dozens of petite nodules that emulate the vegetable's exterior texture. One end of the vessel tapers, extends, and curves outwards before terminating in a nubbin stem while a rounded base is below the body and a flared spout above. The squash was a dietary staple amongst the Chimu due to its ability to thrive in harsh conditions with minimal moisture as well as its ability to develop around other crops without impeding their growth. Size: 10" L x 6" W x 8.875" H (25.4 cm x 15.2 cm x 22.5 cm)
