Description:

Eastern Roman Empire, Byzantium, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A silver medallion with a repousse image of Jesus Christ, seemingly the head of a traditionally half-length Pantocrator form. The most accepted translation of Pantocrator is "Almighty" or "All Powerful" and the visage of Jesus certainly projects his ominpotence. This iconic depiction continues to be a central icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. A wonderful and rare exampleSize: 2.25"L (5.7 cm)
